The Software Distribution Server (\\softdist.science.oregonstate.edu) is managed by the Information Services - Client Services department and currently hosts some of the site-licensed software available to Oregon State University students, staff, and faculty. If the software you are attempting to find is not available on the SoftDist Server you may find it on the SoftStore Server (\\tss-softstore.tss.oregonstate.edu). Access to the Software Servers is based on security groups applied to your particular account.

Steps for ordering and downloading OSU Site Licensed Software

  • Choose your software package and place your software request here:   Order Software  You will immediately receive an email confirmation of your order.
  • Once your software order is processed, you will receive a second email granting you temporary access to the Software Distribution Server.
  • Ensure that you are either connected to the OSU network or you have VPN installed and running. Please go to the VPN page for details and installation information.
  • Access the software distribution server as noted below for your computer platform.
  • Once connected to the Softdist, you can run the installation from the server or save the installation file to your computer and run it from there. If your browser asks whether you want to open or save the download application file, click on the save file button! If you have any firewall software running, you may need to turn it off before downloading from the server.

Accessing the Softdist Software Distribution Server from a Windows Environment

  • Click on the Start Menu button and type in \\softdist.science.oregonstate.edu\SW in the white search/run box.
  • Press enter and the softdist server will open.
  • If the softdist does not open, click on this link for access to the  OSU Site License Software Distribution Server.

  • You will need to enter your ONID credentials and password to access the software server and download any site licensed software.

  • You will need to enter your ONID credentials and password to access the software server and download any site licensed software.

PLEASE NOTE: Once you leave the university, you must remove all site-licensed software from your personal computers.  Any valid licenses on your work computers may be transferred to another employee.
