Upgrading old core equipment

Service(s) affected: All network connectivity to buildings connected to old core (DRT0 and DRT1) and all subnets routed by those routers, which represents about 75% of the campus network.

Replacing two old routers with a new one (DRT0 and DRT1 move to DRT2). There will be a long outage starting 8pm on 7/2 for about an hour to insert DRT2 and re-cable DRT0 DRT1 as “slaves”. Then there will be a rolling outage, ~5 min. outage per building, and also ~5 min. outage per subnet.

Outage Window: Start: 07/02/2015 8:00 PM End: 07/06/2015 7:00 AM

Reason for outage: DRT0 and DRT1 are obsolete. The vendor will no longer provide support. We have had several failures on this equipment already. The OS code is old and has known vulnerabilities.

Impact:

Departments affected: All buildings connected to DRT0 or DRT1 (approx 120) and all subnets routed on those routers (approx 80).

Locations affected: See above. Send email to noc@oregonstate.edu if you want more specific information.

Applications affected: In affected buildings and/or affected subnets there will be complete loss of network connectivity.

Fixed – OSU_Access intermittent problems

The intermittent authentication on the OSU_Access wireless network, impacting registered devices, has been resolved.

OSU_Access intermittent problems

The OSU_Access wireless network is experiencing intermittent login problems with registered devices. Registered devices are not being recognized and auto-login fails. If you have a registered device, after connecting to OSU_Access please open up a browser to login with your ONID credentials.

Network Operations is troubleshooting this and will report once the problem is fixed.

As a better and more secure solution, we recommend that you configure your device to use the OSU_Secure wireless network.

ONID Outage Friday June 12 1:30am – 10:30am

There was a partial outage for ONID Personal web pages (http://people.oregonstate.edu/~username) on June 12th from 1:30am to 10:30am. The root filesystem filled up on one of the two servers behind this service. This was caused by temporary files in the /tmp directory. We are now cleaning out /tmp every night, and we will move /tmp to a separate partition soon to prevent this problem from happening again.

Nolij data migrations.

New storage hardware has prompted a move of the Nolij data repository. Beginning tonight at 7 PM, Nolij will be unavailable while we make a final sync of the data and switch over to the new storage array. Service will be restored by 10 AM Saturday, the next morning.

Banner Maintenance Memorial Day Weekend

Banner and Banner-related applications will be unavailable from Friday, May 22 at 11:55PM through Monday, May 25 at 5:00PM due to planned software upgrades and maintenance work. This affects many online administrative applications.

What is affected:

* Online Services (Banner Self-Service), Banner INB, AppWorx, Nolij, OSCAR, Degreeworks (MyDegrees) and BRM will be inoperable the entire weekend. * Banner portlets and Banner-related links within the myOSU portal will be inaccessible over the entire weekend. * Data Warehouse and CORE Reporting will be available after 9:00 am on Saturday morning. * TouchNet will still accept payments but payments will not be posted until the upgrades are complete

Cyder Self Registration outage

DNS move to new network core

We will be moving one of our name servers, ns1, to the new network core by way of moving it’s subnet to the new core. This will result in a brief service blip while the transition happens. No client impact is expected. This move should help improve stability and reliability of this core service.

Federation Services Outage 5/9/2015 (Resolved)

We received a report this evening that the federation service (office.cloud.oregonstate.edu) was not working. As of 10:15PM, service has been restored.

This appears to have been an artifact of an automatic certificate renewal earlier in the day. We apologize for the disruption in service.
