The ONID Web Database (MySQL database) will be unavailable Saturday January 30rd from 8:00am to 9:00am. We will be migrating to a new server running Debian Linux v8. As part of this upgrade, the MySQL version will change from v5.1.73 to v5.5.46.

Hello, Qualtrics should now be up and running for the campus. If you have trouble signing in, please be aware that you may have to close down all browsers and possible reboot the computer. If you continue to have problems, please let us know.

All network services have been restored. Both OSU_Access and OSU_Secure are working, as is email and phone service. Exchange services (email, calendaring) are working, however, Exchange is backlogged due to the outage, so email delivery may be intermittent as it catches up.

Network problems

OSU is experiencing network problems that are resulting in sporadic connectivity around campus and to the Internet. Network Operations is working on troubleshooting this, and will try to resolve this as soon as feasible.

The legacy ONID email server (imap.onid.oregonstate.edu) will be unavailable Saturday January 16th from 8:00am to 10:00am. We will be upgrading the operating system to Debian Linux v7. Email will be queued and delivered after the maintenance is complete.

OSU Login Outage

Due to a partial failure of the OSU Login service (https://login.oregonstate.edu), some people were unable to login to services such as Google Apps for OSU and Canvas. The failure occurred Saturday January 2nd at 11pm and full service was restored Sunday January 3rd at 11am.

The root cause of the failure was an out-of-memory condition in the Shibboleth process on one of the servers. We will look into better ways to monitor this service for failures and prevent this failure from occurring again.

Federation.oregonstate.edu change

What : Server support will change from ADFS 2.0 to ADFS 3.0 When: Saturday, 6am we will point the existing “Federation.oregonstate.edu” to point to the new federation servers Why: This upgrade allows future upgrades to be seamless, as well as increasing resiliency, redundancy and overall capacity. The change is more backend, although there will be a newer look and feel from the webpage. It allows us to stay current, as future upgrades can be incorporated without the creation of a new, independent ADFS group.

How will the change impact the customer? The site will be down while DNS replicates for 5 minutes; I’ve set the ttl to 5 minutes there may be a few clients that might have to flush DNS as they don’t honor TTL. Overall, there will be a newer website and will add features for mobile device management, and other needed features for campus migration to office 365.
