OSU Visitor wireless access restored

4 Hour update for visitor outage

OSU Visitor network is still experiencing the unplanned outage from this morning. This is due to a problem on the outside of the network and has been reported to the Internet Service Provider.

The external Internet Service Provider is working diligently on the issue and they understand the importance of the service to our campus and are doing everything in their power to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Exchange Server certificate change

ONID Maintenance Saturday July 12th 8:00am – 9:00am

Maintenance will be performed on the following ONID services Saturday July 12th from 8:00am to 9:00am:

– ONID Webmail (https://webmail.oregonstate.edu) – MyONID website (ONID Password changes, ONID Sign-Up) – ONID SSO (the old SSO system, not CAS) – Cacti graphs (http://cacti.onid.oregonstate.edu)

An internal MySQL database server will be upgraded. These services will be unavailable while the MySQL upgrade is happening.

NERO has been notified by the customer circuit provider for the Klamath Falls and Medford Hub sites of planned maintenance on Friday, July 11, between 0000-0300. Hunter Communications is upgrading their network backbone.

Hunter expects intermittent loss of connectivity throughout the maintenance window.

NERO Maintenance July 11 1800 to 0600 (12 hours)

AT&T has notified NERO of fiber maintenance on the segment between Salem and Portland to start on Thursday evening, July 10, 2014 at 1800 and continuing until Friday morning, July 11, 2014 at 0600 (12 hours).

This maintenance is required due to a permanent cable relocate for railroad construction.

NERO will migrate traffic away from the affected segment onto redundant facility before the maintenance occurs to reduce the effect on operational traffic.

Some Drupal 7 sites were experiencing problems

We had a configuration issue that caused some of the Drupal 7 sites to not load properly. The situation has been remedied and everything is back to normal now.

Planned Maintenance – CWS Drupal 7 Update on Tuesday June 24

On Tuesday June 24 CWS will be updating CWS Hosted Drupal 7 sites to the latest versions of Drupal. This update is only for existing Drupal 7 sites. This release includes important security updates for Drupal core and several modules. Although this will incur a 2 to 3 minute interruption in service to the affected websites, most site visitors will not notice the interruption, as most pages are cached. This will be a rolling upgrade and we cannot say exactly when or on which day a specific site will be affected.

OSU DNS partial outage 6/5/2014

One of OSU’s DNS servers (NS2) crashed this morning 6/5/2014 at about 6:25AM. The system was rebooted and service restored by 8:00AM.

The DNS service allows computers to find services on the network by name. Although computers are usually configured to use multiple DNS servers, fail-over is not always graceful and some services can be interrupted. In particular, we received reports this morning that some customers were not able to login to OSU’s WordPress site (blogs.oregonstate.edu) and courses.ecampus.oregonstate.edu.

We apologize for the service disruption. We will be investigating ways to make this service more resilient.
