Network Issue contained

Fri, 05/01/2015 - 9:57am

As of approximately 9:40am we have contained the network issue and are continuing analysis as to the root cause. At this point we know that it was an exceptionally heavy use of the network coming from on campus. When we identify the source we will be able to work on remediation actions to prevent future events. We believe that all systems are back on line and full connectivity to the internet is restored. Please contact the OSU Computer Help Desk at 541-737-3474 if you believe you are seeing continued network problems.

Thank you,

Exchange Mobile Data Network outage

Fri, 04/24/2015 - 10:53am

>From 3:30 pm yesterday 4/23/15 until 10 am today 4/24/15. An outage occurred for Exchange users on the mobile network Verizon. This was due to a firewall rule written in response to a report from the security team of large amount of anomalous traffic from a company (not Verizon) that we did not recognize. The rule has been removed and service has been restored. We apologize for the interruption in services

ONID Outage April 14 10:30pm – April 15 2:00pm

Wed, 04/15/2015 - 2:16pm

There was a partial outage for ONID Personal web pages ( from April 14th at 10:30pm to April 15th at 2:00pm. One of the two servers behind this service was unable to read ONID home directories after it was rebooted on April 14th at 10:30pm. We have changed the way ONID home directories are mounted to an “automount”, which will automatically retry if the mount is lost or unavailable.

Milne Data Center Maintenance March 24th 6 to 7 AM

Thu, 03/19/2015 - 9:21am

Primary Contact: Joel Burks,

On March 24th at 6 AM the Network Operations team will be doing maintenance on two redundant switches in the Milne Data Center. The goal of this maintenance is to upgrade the firmware and implement best practices settings.

This maintenance will be performed with Cisco TAC online. During the maintenance, industry best practices will be followed to prevent outages on services that are dual-homed to the two network switches being upgraded. However, there may be a brief outage (up to 20 minutes) on devices that are only connected to a single network switch.
