myOSU Portal Issues

OSU DNS partial outage 6/5/2014

One of OSU’s DNS servers (NS2) crashed this morning 6/5/2014 at about 6:25AM. The system was rebooted and service restored by 8:00AM.

The DNS service allows computers to find services on the network by name. Although computers are usually configured to use multiple DNS servers, fail-over is not always graceful and some services can be interrupted. In particular, we received reports this morning that some customers were not able to login to OSU’s WordPress site (blogs.oregonstate.edu) and courses.ecampus.oregonstate.edu.

We apologize for the service disruption. We will be investigating ways to make this service more resilient.
