The following software must be paid for at the time you install it. In most cases you will need to email the software contact for the package to obtain access to installation files.

ArcGIS

The Student Edition Does NOT include Esri Technical Support – the faculty/staff providing the GIS-related courses or programs which utilize this software will need to provide help to the students.  The Software Coordinator will provide installation support only.

PLEASE NOTE: ArcGIS 9.3 may still be downloaded by special request.  Please make a note in the additional comments area of your order form. ArcGIS 9.3 keyless licensing is NOT supported on Windows 7 or a 64 bit system. You may run ArcGIS 9.3 with a concurrent version (logged into the OSU licensing server during use).  You can get more information on this at the Esri support site (also see system requirements for ArcGIS 10). If you are trying to install ArcGIS on Windows 7 and are having issues, please see their discussion thread on the issue for possible solutions.

License Restrictions: 

Esri products are available to OSU faculty, staff & students for use in education and research only (not for commercial or for-profit use). Students will receive an ArcGIS Desktop and Extensions Student Edition - One Year Educational Use License for use while taking GIS-related courses or programs as described on the Student Home Use page.

Geometer's Sketchpad

Geometer's Sketchpad gives students a tangible, visual way to learn mathematics that increases their engagement, understanding, and achievement.

License Restrictions

Students, staff, and faculty have unrestricted use on campus computers.

Microsoft Products

Oregon State University participates in the Microsoft Campus Agreement (MSCA) that provides software and client access licenses for Microsoft Software. The MSCA provides upgrade and downgrade rights for both the desktop Operating Systems and Productivity Suites.

The systems covered under this agreement are limited to OSU owned desktop/laptop computers. Please see the License Restrictions section of this page for personal and student options.

License Restrictions

The basic Microsoft license covers all departments this year. Add-ons only cover those departments that participate in the individual enrollments each year. Enrollment is available in the fall. Media should be purchased through Dell, our offical Microsoft Reseller.

Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Research/Teaching Assistants in paid assistantships have limited Home Use Rights. Please review the Microsoft Home Use program for eligibility, software available, and the software request form.

Microsoft Home Use

The Home Use Program for Microsoft Office allows faculty, staff, and graduate research / teaching assistants who are on paid assistantships to license and install Microsoft Office products on their personally owned computer.

Unlike the old Work at Home program, the Home Use Program does not stipulate that usage must be 100% work-related and a University index is no longer necessary to purchase the software.

Eligibility Requirements

Only regular Oregon State University employees or paid Graduate Research / Teaching Assistants are eligible. Temporary employees, undergraduates and graduate students paid as student workers are not eligible.

Versions Available

Microsoft has stopped distributing Microsoft Office 2003, Office 2007, Office 2008, and Office 2010. In addition, the Windows version now being distributed (Office 2013) requires either the Windows 7 or Windows 8; neither XP nor Vista are compatible. The new versions listed below are backwards compatible with documents created in previous versions:

  • Windows: Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus (requires Windows 7 or Windows 8)
  • Apple MacOS X: Microsoft Office 2011

How to Obtain Microsoft Office Home Use Media

If you believe that you are eligible for the Microsoft Office Home Use program follow these steps for approval and download instructions.

  1. Submit the webform below.
  2. Once confirmed that you are authorized you will receive an email with an authorization code and a link to the Microsoft website.
  3. Visit the website link and provide the necessary credit card and information to purchase the Microsoft Office Suite of your choice.
  4. Download the software using the computer on which you want to install Microsoft Office.

SAS

License Restrictions: 

SAS is available to OSU faculty, staff & students for institutional purposes (Students please see student TRF-paid license guidelines below) and may be installed on home workstations (one license purchase will cover up to 2 installs, 1 work computer and 1 home computer).

STUDENT TRF-PAID SAS LICENSE GUIDELINES: These are the only options approved for use of a TRF paid license for both students and grad students:

  • On a student-owned desktop or laptop
  • Student computer labs (managed by OSU IT personnel)*
  • Specific classrooms with prior approval*

*SAS TRF-paid licenses may NOT be installed on any office, research or lab computer for which research or work other than classwork/homework is completed.  An annual SAS license may be purchased for this type of use.

SAS 9.3 CANNOT BE INSTALLED ON MICROSOFT XP HOME, VISTA, WINDOWS 7, or WINDOWS 8 HOME  versions
(Please refer to the SAS web site for a list of supported operating systems and system requirements for 9.2)

However, SAS 9.2 TS2M3 will install on Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit and 64-bit).

Symantec Ghost

Oregon State University departments interested in the Symantec Ghost product enroll yearly to obtain reduced cost access to the software.
