Student Scanning LaptopEquipment is checked out on a first-come, first-served basis and is only available to currently enrolled students for course- or research-related work.

Equipment can be checked out for a period of 48 hours to 7 days. Once returned, there is a 48 hour wait period before the same type of equipment can be checked out again. There is also a 3 hour checkout option for laptops only that does not include a waiting period upon return.

SMS has a limited supply of QRL (Qualitative Research Lab) Macbook Pro Laptops designed for students in the final phase of graduate research. These laptops are available for term-long checkout and are first-come, first-served.   Upon request, specific software can be installed at the discretion of an SMS Administrator. *With very limited exceptions, all QRL laptops are due on the last day of the term.  SMS does not backup profile information or preserve user data. 

A Special Permission Form is required to access the QRL computers.

All late fees ($25 per day/per kit) are automatically charged to student accounts.

Portrait

An SMS student photographer is available for portraiture service at no charge for official OSU purposes.

A 72 dpi, 2X3" image will be emailed to your ONID account at no cost.

300 dpi, 4X6" or larger images are available for a fee which is charged to student accounts.

Our turnaround time is 48 hours during normal business hours, Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm, excluding holidays.  (Example: student submits a job at 3:00pm on Friday, the job would be finished by 3:00pm the following Tuesday.) SMS strives to exceed this turnaround, but it's not guaranteed.

Depending on staff availability, a rush order may be possible for an additional fee of $50. The fee will be charged to your student account.

Photography and Videography

An SMS student photographer or videographer may be available to capture images of on-campus student events. Up to one hour of imaging time is free; additional hours may be available for a fee.

All photo/videography captured by SMS students is owned by SMS and OSU and can be included in our SMS stock inventory for future student use.

Brochure Printing

Student Working on BrochureThe first five standard paper brochure copies are printed free of charge per assignment, double-sided, no folding. Please email SMS Production for any help with formatting your files or give us a call at 541-737-7964. Additional copies can be ordered for a fee.

For group projects (maximum 10 students, 5 pages per student for a total of 50 total pages for project), be sure to provide an OSU ID number for each student. No copies for free without an associated OSu ID numbers will be printed.

Paper sizes are 8.5x11" (8x10.5" printable area) or 11x17" (10.5x16.5" printable area).

Brochures created in Microsoft PowerPoint/Publisher or Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign must be submitted in their native format.

Brochures created using any other authoring tool should be delivered as a PDF, TIF, or JPG format.

Thesis Printing

Thesis Printing from PrinterThe first two copies, printed on 25% cotton paper, are free of charge. Additional copies can be ordered for a fee.  One thesis can be "Velobind" for free, including a black front/back cover.  Additional copies can be bound for a $15 each. 

If you need assistance making a final PDF file from multiple MS Word files, please send the files, along with your contact information and your OSU ID number, to: SMS.production@oregonstate.edu

Scanning

Student Scanning a Large ImageFlatbed and transparency scanning is available for sizes up to 12x17". Five scans per assignment are available at no cost.

Feed scanning (up to 42" one side, no greater than ¼" thick) that contains multiple layers must have all edges taped down securely.

This room can accommodate up to 15 participants and is typically used for presentations and thesis defenses.

Study Space Registration for Graduate Students

Nighttime Study Space for Graduate Students ONLY
Valley Library Room 1420, 10pm to 7am

Graduate students may register with SMS to gain access to a nighttime study space. This space is reserved exclusively for graduate students. Once a graduate student is approved for access, the student is issued a door access code which provides access to the space for the entire term.

By submitting this webform you are agreeing to the following terms. Failure to abide by these terms may result in loss of the privilege to use study rooms, a referral to the Student Conduct office, or a referral to campus Public Safety.

  1. You understand that you are issued a UNIQUE code, and you agree that you will NOT share your code with anyone else. (This is critical for tracking usage.)
  2. This room is to be a quiet space to study, and furnishings are not to be changed or removed.
  3. The middle door windows must remain uncovered for security reasons.
  4. The technology installed in the room is not to be used during this time period. If technology is needed, please contact SMS during normal business hours for checkout and training.
  5. You must vacate the room by 7:00 am each morning.
  6. All misuse or damage is to be reported immediately to Circulation Desk and email sent to SMS.production@oregonstate.edu.

Willamette West

Willamette West RoomThe Willamette West room, located on the third floor of the Valley Library (3622), can accommodate 20 participants. It is available free of charge for use in thesis defenses. If accommodations for additional participants (up to 50 maximum) are needed, contact SMS for special arrangements.
