Information Services provides state-of-the-art instructional technology and applications in General Purpose classrooms on campus. We support instructors by offering the training and help you need to enhance your success.
Supported technologies include:
Audience response sytems, also known as clickers, are wireless hand-held devices used to conduct student participation in the classroom, often to credit attendance and measure understanding. Student inputs can be instantly displayed on screen, along with the correct answer choice. This provides both student and instructor with valuable real time feedback.
PowerPoint can be used with or without the Turning NXT as a pedagogical tool in its own right. Please consult the TAC calendar for training opportunities or access one of the many PowerPoint GEMs developed by TAC.
Resources available for student checkout or faculty rental include:
Students, please visit Student Multimedia Services to arrange for equipment checkout. Equipment is available to currently enrolled students for course- or research-related work or for student organization events only.
The following services are available for classes, research, events, or other University-based need. Please choose between the following two options.
For either option, technicians are available for consultation on the equipment and services that best fit your need.
Faculty and staff, please complete the form below to initiate a request for multimedia event support. For this service, a technician from Information Services provides event support and operates the equipment. In some cases, this option is required due to the complexity of the equipment and the type of venue. This service is available for classes, research, events, or other University-based need.
Our professional technical staff will consult with you to help select the equipment best suited for your need. Response time is generally one business day (Monday through Friday). Please also feel free to call us at 541-737-2121 to discuss your options.
Enhanced Classrooms are General Purpose classrooms that are supported by Information Services. For departmental classrooms, please contact the department's IT support.
Enhanced Classrooms are computer-equipped and networked to campus servers and to the Internet for complete large screen computer data and video projection for classes ranging in size from 50 to 750. A faculty member can now come into the room, open the teaching podium, turn on the equipment, and begin instruction. A full time support person is on call to assist faculty with equipment or network problems.

Instructors may request custom software installation for the general purpose classrooms listed on this page. You must complete the request form and deliver the software installation media two (2) weeks prior to first use.
The Buildings which contain enhanced classrooms are highlighted in orange. View at full size
Door locks on classrooms enhance security.
All Enhanced Classrooms have a help phone located underneath the keyboard and connect directly to our friendly support staff. Help phone hours are 7:30a - 7:30p Monday through Thursday and 7:30a - 5p on Fridays.
This software installation request form is for general purpose classrooms only. Find the list of applicable classrooms at the main Enhanced Classrooms page.
Please have the following information when requesting an access code for an Enhanced Classroom(s)
Obtain an access code by using one of the following methods:
Your access code will be assigned to your name for the duration of your teaching at Oregon State University. You will need to contact us before the beginning of the term with the classroom(s) you will be teaching in to initialize your code in each of your classes. Do not give out your code as we track access of the equipment in Enhanced Classrooms.
Oregon State University's lecture capture system offers a flexible and scalable solution for capturing and posting lectures across multiple platforms, including Canvas and MediaSpace, for later review and use by students.
OSU's systems record media projected in the class along with audio of the instructor's lecture. Most rooms equipped with lecture capture do not use cameras in order to protect the privacy of students and recording audio only from the microphone used by the instructor.
Lecture capture is ideal for supplementing your teaching materials and your students’ notes. If you’re interested in professional lecture recordings that can be repurposed for future terms or for Ecampus, please consider scheduling production services for your class.

Teaching stations in the general purpose enhanced classrooms are equipped with an iMac computer running Windows 7 and OS X. Instructors may boot up the operating system that they prefer. Microsoft Office 2010/2011, a secure telnet application, and a web browser are installed on the computer. Additional licensed software, provided by the instructor, can be loaded as needed. The computer also has a "wireless mouse" allowing the presenter to move about the room during presentations.
When you first come to the teaching station the touch panel will most likely be darkened; this is the energy saving mode. Simply touch the panel for it to become active. After the panel becomes active, you will see this screen.
Please note that the touch panel has five buttons on the left and on the right side of the touch screen. These buttons are active when the VCR and DVD are selected which will be covered later. Now touch the panel as the screen says.
