Zoom Classroom Upgrades

Help get campus ready for Fall with Operation 231

We are seeking IT pros and other staff of all experience levels to assist with adding collaboration technology to academic spaces. By the end of summer, at least 231 classrooms need updates. Your help for a half or full-day shift will enable us to complete more classrooms per day to meet this goal and get Oregon State ready for hybrid course delivery this fall.

How to Get Involved

Do you want to be part of this awesome effort to get campus ready for Fall? Do you want to work with fun people to learn something new? Let’s be honest... do you really need a change of scenery after months of working from home?

If yes, here’s how to get involved:

  1. Get your supervisor’s okay to participate.
  2. Identify options for half-day (8am-12pm or 1-5pm) or full day (8am-5pm) when you could come to campus.
  3. Sign up here by adding your name and email to one or more open shifts. (login to Google with ONID credentials)
  4. Read and follow the day-of instructions.

All shifts on the sign-up sheet are Corvallis campus. Classroom updates are also planned at Cascades and Hatfield Marine Science Center this summer. If you are already at Cascades or HMSC and interested in assisting, contact Tania Mahood or Don De Mello to sign up.

    What You’ll Be Doing

Assistants will work on a team alongside two Classroom Technology Services staff members. Staff will provide instructions and show you what to do. No prior knowledge is needed, only a desire to help and willingness to learn. Here’s a bit about what each of the Operation 231 teams is doing:

    Cable Team

Provide video and audio infrastructure cable pathways in classrooms spaces prior to technology hardware installation, including pulling, terminating, and labeling cable.

    Hardware Team

Install physical A/V components with provided infrastructure cabling in the classroom spaces prior to commissioning. This includes racking, mounting, wiring, and continuity testing of hardware components.

    Commission Team

Test all added functions, perform remote connectivity, and provide final finish report to admin. Assistants will support commission team from LINC by preparing hardware for next day’s schedule, organizing install carts, and transporting items to field teams as needed.

CTS staff will assign assistants to Operation 231 teams. Assistants working on the cable and hardware teams should be comfortable with ladders and able to lift up to 25 lbs. If you have preferences or specific needs, either add these in the Optional Notes column of the sign-up sheet or contact the organizers directly.
