Laptop Loan Program for Graduate Student Research

About the Loan Program: The Research Laptop Loan Program is managed by Information Services (Student Multimedia Studio and Campus Labs) in collaboration with the Graduate School.  Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis to currently-enrolled graduate students actively working on graduate research projects related to their discipline and degree. If you need mobile computing for off-site research projects you may be eligible.

Application requirements

  1. Completed request form including:
    1. A statement that describes how the laptop will be used for a university approved graduate research project related to the discipline and degree
    2. Faculty advisor approval
  2. Approval from Student Multimedia Studio

Program stipulations

  • Laptops may be checked out for a maximum of 10 weeks; Student Multimedia Studio (SMS) will determine the checkout duration according to individual research needs.
  • Upon request, user-provided, licensed software can be installed at the discretion of Student Multimedia Studio and Campus Labs staff.
  • Students are responsible for all data on the computer, and are advised to make backups during the period of use, and prior to return. SMS does not backup your data or computer profile, and laptops may be erased between checkouts.
  • This program is intended for temporary support of active research, not to replace other university computing resources, or a personal computer.
  • All late fees ($25 per day/per kit) are assessed to OSU accounts.
