Why is OSU Testing Webex and Zoom?

Webex and Zoom are a full-featured web and video conferencing solutions that offer online meetings and webinars.  Features include HD video and audio, screen sharing, polling, breakout rooms, whiteboarding, and more.  Currently, Oregon State University uses Webex to provide this service.  OSU's contract with Webex expires in summer 2019, prompting a request for proposals and evaluation of video conferencing and web collaboration solutions.  The feedback from OSU's faculty and staff is essential to determine if the university is best served by continuing with Webex or transitioning to Zoom in 2019.

OSU is evaluating Webex and Zoom because:

  • Webex and Zoom have been identified as the best potential solutions to support OSU's mission.
  • Webex and Zoom are leaders in Gartner Magic Quadrant.
